Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Sa Dec - Long Xuyen (L,D)
In the morning transfer to Cai Be to board the comfortable Tcharokaa around noon. After a refreshing welcome drink we show you the on-board facilities and your cozy cabin. As lunch is served, the boat sets sail for Sa Dec passing through fantastic scenery. Sa Dec is an old-fashioned town, famous for its flowers and bonsai plants, and is where the French writer Marguerite Duras spent her childhood.
Take a leisurely bike ride along the river bank, Stop to visit the ancient house of Huynh Thuy Le, the “house of the Chinese” described in Marguerite Duras' novel L'AMANT passing the school where Marguerite's mother taught and visit the house where she used to live with her children. Continue to visit a local Cao Dai Temple and stroll through the bustling streets of this lively market town before returning to the boat.
Back on board you may want to enjoy a drink at the bar or relax on deck as the sun sets over the magnificent watery landscape of the Mekong. The cruise boat will continue sailing to Long Xuyen, another town along the Mekong. The day ends with a delicious on-board dinner and overnight on your floating hotel in the Mekong Delta.
MEALS : 1LUNCH, 1DINNER
Day 2: Long Xuyen local Floating Market – Back to Ho Chi Minh City (B/L)
Wake up well rested to the sound of the river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. The boat sets off early for a sunrise cruise to the floating market. While enjoying an early breakfast watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships. Here each boat usually sells one particular item, whether it be pumpkins, pineapples, sugar cane etc, and to help the customer know where to shop, they hang that item from the highest part of the boat or on a long pole. We will pull up close to the boats to bargain with the merchants. We will also land on Tiger Island to visit some of the local artisans making incense sticks and cycle through the lush watery landscape to see local houses and verdant orchards.
Note: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are not tourist markets but wholesale markets where the produce of the Mekong Delta, like fruit and vegetables, is traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on the season and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam and this can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present at the markets.
After lunch on board you will disembark and we will take you back to your hotel in Saigon or transfer to Chau Doc for further adventures.
End of services.
