The kaleidoscopic nation of Vietnam boasts a spectacular blend of old and new, modern and ancient. Today, parts of hoi An look exactly as they did a century and a half ago, and it still preserves hundreds of houses built of precious wood in a very original style of architecture. the rafters and beams of these houses are carved with very subtle patterns and the homes date from the first part of the 19th century or earlier, giving visitors the feeling that they have been transported back in time.

The Mekong River, which begins high in the mountains of Tibet, ends its journey in Vietnam's southern delta. Before flowing into the sea, the river branches into nine tributaries, known as Cuu Long or the "Nine Dragons" . These rivers are the south's life-blood, nourishing the delta's paddy fields and fruit orchards.

Ninh Binh is about 95km from Hanoi, or 2.5 hour South by car. The province is surrounded by Hoa Binh and Ha Nam to the North; Nam Dinh to the East and Thanh Hoa to the West and South. Here, the terrain is diverse with mountainous areas in the West and Northwest; and coastal parts in the East and South.

This peaceful central city has long been synonymous with royalty, culture and spiritual reflection. the former imperial capital is renowned for the magnificent architecture of its citadel, palaces, royal tombs, pagodas and temples, built under the nguyen dynasty on the banks of huong river.
